Summit for Stem Cell Foundation (“Summit”, “we,” or “us”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to raise awareness and fund an autologous cell therapy for Parkinson’s disease.  The contents of this privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) explains our information gathering practices to help you make choices about the information you provide and how it is used. This Privacy Policy applies to all information received by Summit (both online and offline, including any electronic, written or oral communication) through your use of the website located at www.summitforstemcell.org and any other social media and mobile websites and/or applications operated by Summit that are related to www.summitforstemcell.org (collectively, the “Summit Website”) (unless a different policy is provided on a particular site or application, in which case such different policy shall control). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. Your use of the Summit Website indicates that you have read and accepted our privacy practices, as outlined in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Summit Website.

THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Interest-Based Advertising

We may allow ad exchanges, web analytics vendors, social networking platforms and other third-parties to measure and target advertisements on our behalf tailored to your interests. We allow these third-party companies to use cookies, web beacons, pixel tags and similar technologies to collect certain data and other information about your interaction with us on the Summit Website and elsewhere on the Internet (e.g., search and click stream information, browser and device type, time and ate, cookie and session IDs and the identity or type of advertisements clicked or scrolled over) and use such information to tailor ads and other communications from Summit and other companies to your interests. The data collected by these third parties does not include PII other than numerical identifiers assigned to your devices; however, these third parties may tie the data collected to other PII, such as your name, e-mail address, physical address, and other demographic and behavioral information about you that we may share with such third parties pursuant to our Privacy Policy and that such third parties may collect from other companies with which you interact. Such third parties may also tie the device identifier associated with your current device to device identifiers associated with other devices that you may use (e.g., your computer, tablet and phone) in order to measure and target advertisements and other communications tailored to your interests across your devices.

The Summit Website does not recognize browser “do not track” signals, but several of our service provides who utilize these cookies, beacons and tools on the Summit Website enable you to opt out of this interest-based advertising by visiting www.networkadvertising.org/choices or www.aboutads.info/choices.

Online Donations

Summit receives donations through Network for Good, a third-party online fundraising platform for charities and non-profit organizations. We advise you to review the legal, privacy and security information on our donation page through Network for Good at https://summit-for-stem-cell-foundation.networkforgood.com/projects/24669-donations  (“Donation Page”), as the terms and conditions of use and the policies relating to the personal information you provide on the Donation Page may vary from that of our Privacy Policy.

When you make an online donation to Summit through the Network for Good website, Network for Good may provide us with your personally identifiable information (“PII”) such as your full name, physical address and e-mail address. They may also provide us with non-personally identifiable information (“Non-PII”) related to you, such as the date of donation, amount of donation, and form of payment (for the sake of clarity, Summit does not receive your credit card or billing address information). This information will be used to acknowledge receipt of your donation for tax purposes in compliance with 501(c)(3) requirements. The information may also be used to place you on Summit’s mailing list to receive updates and information about the research and Summit’s progress to support the research and for other purposes more fully described below.

If you choose to make a donation in honor or memory of someone, you will be asked to submit additional information such as that individual’s, family’s or friend’s full name and your relationship to that individual. This information will only be used for the purpose of contacting the individual, family or friend you specify to notify them that a donation was made in the individual’s name.

Additional Active and Passive Collection

We may collect information in a number of additional ways when you visit our site.

Active Collection: We collect certain information when you voluntarily provide it, such as if you send us an e-mail, fill out a contact or feedback form, subscribe to our website, or participate in our surveys. Such information may include PII such as your name, e-mail address, physical address and residential or mobile number. 

Passive Collection: We may also automatically collect information and monitor user activity through your use of the Summit Website (“Usage Information”). Generally, this information is collected through the use of “cookies” or web beacons on the Summit Website or in our e-mail messages, that allow us to monitor and collect certain limited information such as a user’s IP address, browser information, reference site domain name, user traffic patterns and site usage.

HOW WE USE THIS INFORMATION

We may use personal and other information we collect through the Summit Website for the following purposes:

  • To respond to your e-mails, subscriptions, questions, inquiries, comments, feedback, requests and/or complaints;
  • To request feedback and to otherwise contact you about your use of the Summit Website;
  • To provide you, by mail, e-mail or telephone, informational updates on the progress of our research, charitable donation opportunities, event invitations, and other communications that we think will be of interest to you;
  • To conduct surveys;
  • To process and complete any transactions, requests or donations that you submit through the website;
  • To promote or publicize your donation to Summit, with your consent;
  • To personalize and improve the Summit Website and users’ experiences, to increase the functionality and user friendliness of the Summit Website, to deliver content or features that match user profiles or interests;
  • To monitor and analyze Summit Website usage and trends and otherwise measure the effectiveness of the Summit Website;
  • To send you confirmations, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages, to detect and prevent fraud, and to otherwise facilitate your use of, and our administration and operation of the Summit Website;
  • To notify you about important changes to the Summit Website; and
  • For any other purpose for which the information was collected.

WHO WE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH

We will not share personal information we collect from you through the Summit Website with third parties, excepted as described below:

Third-Party Service Providers: We may engage third parties, such as our fiscal sponsor, Mission Edge San Diego, to perform services in connection with the operation of our organization and the Summit Website. These third-party service providers have access to your PII and other information we collect from you for the purpose of performing services on our behalf.

Company’s Security: We may release information about our users, including PII, when legally required to do so, at the request of governmental authorities conducting an investigation, or to verify or enforce compliance with the policies governing the Summit Website and applicable laws. We may also disclose such information whenever we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Summit or any of our respective affiliates, business partners, donors or others.

Aggregate Information: We may disclose non-identifying, aggregated user statistics to third parties for a variety of purposes, including describing our services to prospective partners and other third parties. Examples of such statistics include the number of users who visited the Summit Website during a specific time period or purchased a specific product through this Summit Website.

Organizational Change: In addition, we reserve the right to disclose, share and/or otherwise transfer user information, including without limitation, PII, in connection with a merger, consolidation, sale of company assets, or other fundamental organizational change, whatever form it may take. You will be notified via e-mail or prominent notice on our Summit Website prior to a change of ownership or control of your personal information, if your personal information will be used contrary to this Privacy Policy.

SECURITY

We care about the security of your information and will apply the strictest industry standard applications to protect your and Summit’s information. However, you should be aware that “perfect security” does not exist on the Internet, and third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications. We cannot and do not ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to Summit and you do so at your own risk.

THIRD PARTY LINKS

The Summit Website may contain links to other websites. Any personal information you provide in linked pages or applications is provided directly to that third party and is subject to that third party’s policies. This Privacy Policy does not apply to such linked sites, and we are not responsible for the content or privacy and security practices and policies of these websites or any other sites that are linked to and/or from the Summit Website. We advise you to review the legal, privacy and security information for each such site to which you link, as the terms and conditions of use and the policies relating to the personal information you provide may vary from site to site.

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

The Summit Website is not intended for use by children under the age of 13, and Summit does not knowingly collect or use any personal information from such children. If we become aware that we have unknowingly collected personal information from a child under the age of 13, we will make commercially-reasonable efforts to delete such information from our database.

INTERNATIONAL TRANSFER

The Summit Website is operated in the United States. If you are located in the European Union, Canada or elsewhere outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to us will be collected in or transferred to the United States. By using the Summit Website, participating in any of our services and/or providing us with your information, you consent to this transfer.

MODIFYING INFORMATION

If you wish to change or correct any information you provide, please write or e-mail us at the contact information provided at the end of this Privacy Policy. If you choose to call us with the request, you may be asked specific questions to verify your identity and protect the privacy of Summit’s constituents.

YOUR CHOICES / UNSUBSCRIBE

You will have an opportunity to unsubscribe from receiving e-mails from Summit by clicking on an “unsubscribe” hyperlink contained in our communications to you. If you wish to delete your physical address or phone number from our contact list, please write or e-mail us at the contact information provided at the end of this Privacy Policy.

You may continue to receive some non-promotional e-mails after you opt out for specified marketing purposes. In addition, you should be aware that it is not always possible to completely remove or delete all of your information from our databases without some residual data because of backups and other reasons. Please be aware that we will process your request as quickly as we reasonably can, but it may not be possible to process your opt-out choices immediately. We appreciate your patience and understanding in giving us time to carry out your request.

CHOICE OF LAW

This Privacy Policy, including all revisions and amendments thereto, is governed by the laws of the Unites States, State of California, without regard to its conflict or choice of law principles which would require application of the laws of another jurisdiction.  

CHANGES TO PRIVACY POLICY

We reserve the right to change the provisions of this Privacy Policy at any time. In the event Summit decides to edit this privacy policy, the edits will be added or deleted to this Privacy Policy directly. We will alert you that changes have been made by indicating on this Privacy Policy the date it was last updated. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy from time to time to make sure that you understand how any personal information you provide will be used. Your continued used of the Summit Website following the posting of changes to these terms will mean you accept those changes.
